Plan 01

1 day at Vagator Beach

  1. 01

Day 1: Sand, fort and sunset

Start with a slow breakfast at a café on the beach road, then walk down to Big Vagator for an hour on the sand before the sun gets strong. Return to your hotel for lunch and a rest. In the late afternoon, drive to Chapora Fort for the view, then continue to Ozran for a table at a clifftop restaurant before sunset. Finish with dinner at a shack or restaurant and arrange the taxi in advance.

Pace: Chapora Fort involves a lot of walking or steps — do it early, and keep the rest of the day light.

With parents at Chapora Fort: The approach is a steep, rocky track to a narrow gate, with uneven ground and almost no shade or seating. It is not suited to people with limited mobility; the views from lower down the slope or from Vagator Beach are a gentler alternative.

Plan 02

2 days at Vagator Beach

  1. 01

    Day 1: Beach and cliffs

Spend the morning at Big Vagator, with a swim only in the flagged zone, then have lunch at a shaded restaurant on the beach road. Rest through the heat. At sunset, go to a clifftop table at Ozran and stay for dinner.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Fort and Anjuna

Climb Chapora Fort in the early morning while it is cool, then drive to Anjuna for a long café breakfast. If it is a Wednesday, visit the flea market in the afternoon; otherwise rest and return to Ozran for a quiet last evening.

Plan 03

3 days at Vagator Beach

  1. 01

    Day 1: Arrive and settle

Check in, have lunch near the hotel and walk to Big Vagator in the late afternoon for the sunset. Keep dinner simple.

  2. 02

Day 2: Fort, beach and cliffs

Visit Chapora Fort first thing, then take a long break by the pool. In the afternoon walk down to Ozran for a late lunch at a shack, and stay for sunset drinks on the cliff.

Day 3: Anjuna and a Sunday option

Spend the morning in Anjuna cafés and shops, or the Wednesday flea market if it is that day. On a Sunday, those who want to see the trance scene can visit the Hilltop in the afternoon; otherwise finish with a quiet dinner and an early night.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Vagator Beach trip for parents and children

  • Pick a hotel with a lift, a pool and car access. The cliff paths and steps at Ozran are steep and poorly lit at night.
  • Visit Chapora Fort only if you are comfortable with a steep, rocky climb; the views from Big Vagator and from clifftop restaurants are a gentler alternative.
  • Plan sightseeing for early morning or late afternoon, and rest between 12 and 3 pm. Even in winter the sun is strong on open sand.
  • Swim only in the flagged area watched by lifeguards, and not at all in the monsoon. Rocks around the cliffs are slippery in the rains.
  • Arrange taxis in advance, especially after dinner. Lanes are narrow and cabs can be hard to find late at night.
  • Choose lunch or early dinner at quieter restaurants, as many clifftop venues and bars turn loud after sunset.
