How to experience it
The temple is a massive cream and pink structure visible from a distance. Come in the late afternoon to see the details of the carved facade in good light. The outer courtyard is spacious and peaceful, with gardens and seating. Walk around the base to see the narrative reliefs carved into the walls: scenes from the Bhagavad Gita and Krishna's childhood and youth in Brindavan.
If you climb inside, you pass through halls with more narrative carvings and reach a gallery with views over the town and towards the Yamuna. The sanctum houses idols of Radha and Krishna. After dark, the temple is brilliantly lit and spotlit, and the carved details stand out. A 30-minute light show with music and narration (in Hindi) runs from about 7 to 7.30 pm, telling the Krishna story. This is the most popular evening visit for tourists and families.
