Yadagirigutta is a temple town in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, about 60 km from Hyderabad. Its Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple sits on a rocky hill and is among the best-known Narasimha shrines in Telangana. The town and temple have also been called Yadadri in official use, and you will see both names on signs and timetables.

The present temple is largely new. It was rebuilt between 2016 and March 2022 in dark stone with seven gopurams, and the surrounding hill complex was expanded. The old cave sanctum, where the Narasimha forms are worshipped, remains at its heart. This is a pilgrimage destination first, and most visitors come for a morning of darshan and leave by afternoon.

There is more to the district than the hill. Bhongir Fort, a rock citadel with a stair climb, is about 13 km away, Swarnagiri's new Venkateswara temple lies near Bhongir, and Kolanupaka's Jain temple and the ikat weavers of Pochampally round out a second day. Accommodation and dining in the town itself are basic, so many people stay in Hyderabad or nearby Bhongir.

For older travellers it is manageable with planning: go on a weekday, arrive early, book darshan in advance through the official site and take rests. The climb at Bhongir Fort is the one part that is genuinely demanding.

Food to try in Yadagirigutta

Food and restaurants

Eating in Yadagirigutta itself is simple and mostly vegetarian, with small hotels and choultries near the hill serving rice meals, tiffin and tea. Do not expect a restaurant scene. Most pilgrims eat a plain meal after darshan and carry on.

Hyderabad is the better place for dining, and Bhongir has more eating places than the hill town. If you have dietary restrictions, ask at your accommodation before you go. This guide does not name individual restaurants because we have not verified any as currently trading.

Shopping in Yadagirigutta

Shopping · 1 guide

Shopping here is limited to temple-area stalls selling devotional items, photographs, brass and puja goods. The notable craft is Pochampally ikat, woven in villages elsewhere in the district. If you want to buy handloom cloth, go to the weaving villages and ask to see looms before purchasing.

When buying, compare handloom and powerloom work, ask about fibre and dye, and keep the seller's bill. For anything expensive, buy from an established cooperative or seller.

Pochampally ikat

Pochampally ikat, a double-ikat handloom cloth from Bhoodan Pochampally in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, has held a Geographical Indication tag since 2005. Visit weavers and cooperatives in the villages and ask whether a piece is handloom before buying.

Choose without overthinking

Which Yadagirigutta experience is right for your trip?

Most plans get crowded because nobody is willing to choose. These comparisons make the trade-offs clear.

Yadagirigutta temple or Swarnagiri temple?

Choose Yadagirigutta for the old cave shrine and the Narasimha tradition; it is the main pilgrimage. Choose Swarnagiri if you want a newer, spacious Venkateswara temple, or add it as a second stop.

Bhongir Fort or the temple, if time is short?

The temple is the main reason to come. Bhongir Fort suits active visitors who want a climb and views; skip it if stairs or heat are a concern.

Day trip from Hyderabad or stay overnight?

A day trip covers the temple and perhaps the fort. Stay in Bhongir or Hyderabad overnight if you want to add Pochampally or Kolanupaka at a relaxed pace.

Pochampally or Kolanupaka for a second stop?

Pochampally suits textile lovers who want to see looms and buy cloth. Kolanupaka suits those interested in Jain heritage and a quiet temple visit.
