    Gan (airport island)

Best for: First-timers, divers and older travellers who want easy transfers

Good to know: Equator Village sits in the former RAF buildings a short way from the airport, and bicycles are offered to guests. It is the simplest base for a first trip, with a pool, dive centre and gardens.

    Herathera (Canareef Resort)

Best for: A beach holiday with resort comforts

Good to know: A resort island linked by a bridge to an inhabited village, with a long beach. Check meal plans and vegetarian arrangements before booking.

Hotels we have written about

Hotels in Addu Atoll for families and seniors

  1. 01

    Canareef Resort, Herathera

Herathera island, Addu Atoll · Beach resort · Price band: ₹₹₹₹

A resort on Herathera, bridged to an inhabited village, that claims a very long beach. It suits a beach-first stay in Addu rather than a sightseeing base.

For older travellers: The resort is on a long narrow island, so distances to the restaurant or beach can be significant. Ask about buggies, room location and mobility access before booking.

  2. 02

    Equator Village

Gan island, a short transfer from Gan International Airport · Converted RAF resort · Price band: ₹₹₹

A garden hotel on Gan built into the old RAF buildings, with a pool, dive centre and free bicycles. It is the simplest base for a first visit to Addu.

For older travellers: Gan is flat and the grounds are green, with a large pool. Ask at booking for a ground-floor room and for details on lifts, since old military blocks may have stairs.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
