The short answer
Aihole Museum and Art Gallery: what visitors should know first
Yes, and it is easy: the museum sits in the same enclosure as Durga temple, so you can add it for twenty to thirty minutes. It gives the carvings names and context, and indoors you can get out of the sun.

Why it matters
Why Aihole Museum and Art Gallery is worth your time
The museum matters because the temples of Aihole have lost much of their sculpture over the centuries, to weather, reuse and removal. A museum on site keeps some of it close to where it was found, and lets you match a carving to the building it came from.
The Lajja Gauri is the headline object. It is a rare, complete example of an old fertility image, and its presence at Aihole shows how varied religious practice was in the early Chalukya period. For visitors, the museum also supplies a few labelled explanations that the temples themselves lack.

How to experience it
The museum shares an enclosure with the Durga temple, so you can walk in after you finish the temple. The collection is a mix of indoor and outdoor displays: sculpture from the many temples around Aihole, with figures of various deities. Start outside, where larger pieces sit in the open, then step into the indoor rooms.
The piece to find is the Lajja Gauri, a life-size figure in a birthing posture with a lotus in place of a head, dated to the 7th century. It was found at the Galaganatha group of temples. Sculpture of this type is unusual, and a note on the museum label may help you understand the figure.
After the museum, you will have a clearer eye for the carving you see on the temple walls. If you visit the Meguti Jain temple, you may find that some of its surviving images are kept here.
