    Day 3: Yadahalli or Ilkal

With permission arranged in advance, spend the morning at Yadahalli Chinkara Wildlife Sanctuary, or visit the weavers of Ilkal if your interest is textiles.

Yadahalli Chinkara Wildlife SanctuaryHalf a day to a full dayModerateOctober to February, early morning

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Yadahalli Chinkara Wildlife Sanctuary: Terrain is dry, open and exposed, with little shade, and tracks are rough. Go in a sturdy vehicle with water, hats and sun protection; it is tiring for frail travellers in the heat.

Pacing

Pacing a Bagalkot trip for parents and children

  • Hire a car with a driver; distances between sights are long and public transport is limited.
  • Visit between November and February, and do outdoor stops in the morning.
  • Badami's cave steps are steep; older visitors can manage the first caves and rest at the lake.
  • Pattadakal's enclosure is level and shaded in parts, a good option for older travellers.
  • Carry water, a hat and snacks; facilities are limited at the sanctuary and rural sights.
  • Confirm access with the forest office before going to Yadahalli.
