- 01
Sukhumvit (Asok, Nana and Phrom Phong)
Best for: First-time families who want Indian restaurants, BTS and MRT on the doorstep
Good to know: The widest choice of hotels and the easiest food for Indian travellers. The trade-offs are busy main-road traffic and the noise around Nana. Choose a hotel within a short walk of a BTS station so you are not stuck in taxis.
- 02
Siam and Ratchaprasong
Best for: Shoppers, short stays and anyone who wants malls and skytrain connections
Good to know: Central and air-conditioned, with links to Jim Thompson House, the Erawan Shrine and the skytrain lines. Rooms cost more, but you save time. Sky bridges and lifts mean fewer steps in the heat.
- 03
Silom and Sathorn
Best for: Travellers who want river access, Lumphini Park and a quieter evening
Good to know: Business-district hotels with a good range of prices, close to the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple and the Sathorn pier for river boats. Streets are quieter after office hours, though the Patpong night market is nearby.
- 04
Riverside (Charoen Krung and Chao Phraya)
Best for: Couples and older travellers who prefer river views and hotel shuttle boats
Good to know: Hotels with shuttle boats to Sathorn Pier give a calm base and quick access to the old city by water. Distances to the BTS can be long, so check shuttle schedules.

Before you book
What to check when booking for older travellers
- Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
- Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
- Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
- Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
- Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
