The short answer
Rajgundha Valley: what visitors should know first
For walkers, not for casual sightseers. If you have a day and can manage a rough trail, it is a good contrast to Barot's village; others can skip it.
History and context
The story behind Rajgundha Valley
The Barot valley is the usual starting point for Rajgundha, according to Onmanorama, which also describes the trek as easy to medium depending on rain.
I could not find a dated history of the valley in a source I could open.

Why it matters
Why Rajgundha Valley is worth your time
Rajgundha shows how much walking country sits beyond Barot's road: a remote valley reached by foot, with few facilities and a slow pace. It is also a link between the Mandi and Kangra sides of the Dhauladhar, joined by trails to Billing.
For visitors who want a taste of the high country without a multi-day expedition, it is the most approachable option from the Barot side, though still a serious walk.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
From Barot, the approach follows the road to Baragram and then a trail across the Uhl towards the valley. One traveller report puts the walk at under three hours from the road end, while another describes the last two kilometres as steep and slippery after rain. A flood has reportedly damaged a bridge, so you may need to wade the river; ask locally before you go.
The route passes through Himalayan oak forest and rhododendrons. Local dishes reported by trekkers include lingdu saag, a wild fern preparation, and cauliflower parathas. Camp or stay at the forest rest house if arrangements are in place, or continue the long walk on to Billing.
Take a guide if you are not familiar with the ground, and avoid the monsoon months when landslides and river levels make the route unsafe.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
- Check the river crossing and weather before you go
- Take a guide if unfamiliar with the trail
- Avoid monsoon months
