Key hubs

Battambang airport and railway station

Airport
The city's own airport is closed to passengers; most visitors fly to Siem Reap-Angkor (SAI) and travel about 4 hours by road, or to Phnom Penh (PNH) and travel 5 to 6 hours.
Railway station
Battambang station, opened in 1933, is on the Phnom Penh to Poipet line; passenger services have changed often, so confirm current trains.
Getting around
Tuk-tuks and hired cars with drivers; the centre is walkable, but temples and hills need a vehicle.

How to reach Battambang by air

Battambang's own airport has not been used for passenger flights for many years. Most visitors fly to Siem Reap-Angkor (SAI) and continue by road, about 4 hours, or to Phnom Penh (PNH), about 5 to 6 hours. We did not verify direct flights from India to either airport; check airlines.

How to reach Battambang by train

Battambang station is on the Phnom Penh to Poipet line, and the line reopened in 2018. Wikivoyage reports a daily train from Phnom Penh, but timetables have changed often, so confirm with the operator before planning around it.

How to reach Battambang by road

National Highway 5 links Battambang with Phnom Penh and onward to Poipet, and National Road 57 runs towards Pailin. Air-conditioned buses connect Battambang with Phnom Penh and Siem Reap; book with an established operator.

Getting around Battambang

The old centre is walkable. For temples and hills, hire a tuk-tuk or a car with a driver, and agree the route and price first. A boat service to Siem Reap has been reported but depends on water level.

Easy transfers to and in Battambang

  • Hire a car with a driver instead of a tuk-tuk if heat or dust is a concern.
  • Carry water, a hat and a light scarf for shoulders, and wear closed shoes with grip.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
