The short answer

Lodh Falls (Budha Ghagh): what visitors should know first

A long, committed outing best in or just after the monsoon, when water is strongest. Roads are long and rural, so go with a driver, check access with the forest office and treat it as a full day.

Why it matters

Why Lodh Falls (Budha Ghagh) is worth your time

Lodh Falls is Jharkhand's tallest waterfall and one of the 21 highest in India. It lies inside the same reserve as Betla, so a visit adds scenery to a wildlife trip.

The distances and limited facilities mean it rewards planning. If you can manage the drive, it is among the most striking natural sights of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. Seen after the rains, with the forest green around it, the fall is among the most memorable sights in the state. Allow plenty of time, travel with a trusted driver and keep expectations realistic about facilities along the way.

Plan your visit

How to experience it

Plan Lodh Falls as its own day, not an add-on to a Betla safari. The fall lies in the forest of Latehar district, and road distances are long. Hire a vehicle with a driver who knows the route, and confirm with the reserve or local officials that the road and viewpoint are open.

The water drops from a height of about 143 metres in several tiers, and the roar can be heard from some distance away. The pool below is said to be very deep, but do not swim. Keep to safe viewpoints; the rocks are slippery.

Carry water, food and a power bank because facilities are minimal. Leave early and aim to return before dark, as forest roads are not safe at night.

Plan with confidence

Small decisions that make the visit easier.
