Why it matters
Why Vaikuntha Ekadasi and the Float Festival is worth your time
The festival connects the temple's Vaikuntha form of Rama with the river that runs beside it, and the passage through the north gate is the symbolic centre.
For visitors, it is a different festival from Rama Navami: more devotional, more concentrated on one day and fixed around the river.
It is also the clearest example of how the Godavari figures in worship here. The river is not just a backdrop: it carries the deities on the evening of the festival, and the barricaded bank becomes a viewing ground for tens of thousands. Visitors who prefer calm should know this is the opposite of a quiet temple morning.

How to experience it
On Vaikuntha Ekadasi, devotees pass through the northern Vaikuntha Dwaram, and in January 2025 several thousand special online tickets were issued to reduce the rush. Separate queues were set up and laddu counters opened after darshan.
The float festival, or teppotsavam, in the evening carries the deities on a swan-shaped boat on the Godavari. In 2025 barricades ran from the river to the flood bund for viewing.
Expect tens of thousands of devotees, mostly from nearby Andhra Pradesh and across Telangana. Go early, bring water and keep a plan to leave.
