Why it matters
Why Someshwar Temple, Bhangarh is worth your time
Someshwar shows that Bhangarh was religiously mixed, with Shaiva and Vaishnava worship side by side, rather than a single-deity town. Shiva temples in a Kachwaha settlement are not unusual, but seeing them next to a Krishna temple at the town's entrance is a useful reminder that these were working civic centres.
It also benefits from the setting. With few visitors and the hill behind, this corner is quiet and good for a pause before the long walk along the main street.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Someshwar is among the cluster of temples near the entrance, and you can walk to it from Gopinath in a couple of minutes. It is a Shiva temple, as the name suggests, with the stripped, roofless look of the town around it.
Look at the doorway, the remaining pillars and the position of the sanctum. Wikipedia describes some Bhangarh temples, including Hanuman and Shiva Mahadev, as built in a style closer to cenotaphs than typical temples, using Jhiri marble. Compare what you see here with Gopinath and see which description fits.
There is little interpretation on site, so read what you can before you go and look for a guide at the gate if you want one. Keep the visit short and move on before the sun gets high.
Plan with confidence
Visit as a guest, not a spectator.
- Visit after Gopinath in the same loop
- Dress modestly and keep quiet
- Take a hat; shade is minimal
- Ask at the gate if a guide is available
