How to experience it

Start with the main shelters, which are the largest and have the clearest paintings. The rock art shows hunting scenes, animals, geometric patterns and figures dating from the Paleolithic to Iron Age. Climb between shelters, observing how ancient peoples used rock overhangs for shelter. The views from higher shelters over the surrounding landscape are beautiful.
Bring plenty of water, a hat and sturdy shoes with grip. The stone can be slippery, especially after rain. An afternoon visit is possible, but early morning is better because the light is clearer and you have time to absorb what you see. Return to Bhopal by late afternoon.
