Bogmalo is a small beach-side village in South Goa, about 4 km from Dabolim airport, with a curving bay of roughly a mile of sand. It is quieter and smaller than the big northern beaches: a line of restaurants and shacks, one large resort at the south end, a handful of guesthouses and a village road behind. That makes it easy for a first or last night of a Goa trip, and gentle for families and older travellers who do not want a party beach.
The beach changes sharply with the season. From roughly November to March the sea is calm in the mornings, shacks and water-sports operators are open and the beach is at its easiest. By April it is hot and many places begin to shut, and from June to September the monsoon brings heavy rain, rough seas and a state-wide ban on sea swimming. Goa's lifeguard agency, Drishti, posts red flags when the sea is unsafe, so swim in the morning, between the flags, and never alone.
Off the sand, Bogmalo has a few useful neighbours. The Naval Aviation Museum is about 2 km away, Vasco da Gama town, with its municipal market, is about 8 to 9 km off, and Velsao's 17th-century church is a short drive south. Hollant beach lies roughly halfway along the road to Vasco. Beach shacks are licensed seasonally, so always check that a place is open before you plan a meal around it.
