Plan 01

1 day at Bogmalo Beach

  1. 01

Day 1: Morning swim, long lunch, museum

Swim early, while the sea is calm and the sand is quiet. Have a late breakfast near the water, then walk the length of the beach from the Full Moon end to Joet's at the north. Take lunch there and rest in the afternoon. If energy allows, take a short taxi to the Naval Aviation Museum, open Tuesday to Sunday, and return for a sunset drink at the southern end.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Naval Aviation Museum1.5 to 2 hoursModerateMorning or late afternoon, Tuesday to Sunday

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Naval Aviation Museum: The aircraft are displayed outdoors on open ground with little shade, so the heat is the main issue. Galleries are indoors and cooler; take water, a hat and plan breaks.

Plan 02

2 days at Bogmalo Beach

  1. 01

    Day 1: Beach and village

Settle in, swim in the morning and spend the afternoon at your hotel pool. In the late afternoon, walk through the village lanes to Claudi's Corner for a quiet dinner.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Claudi's Corner1 to 1.5 hoursEasyDinner in the season, when the beach restaurants get busier

Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Museum and Vasco

Go to Vasco Municipal Market in the morning, then the Naval Aviation Museum on the way back. Lunch at John's Seagull, rest, and finish with sunset at the southern end of the beach.

Naval Aviation Museum1.5 to 2 hoursModerateMorning or late afternoon, Tuesday to Sunday
John's Seagull1 to 1.5 hoursEasyBreakfast or an early lunch; sunset for drinks in season

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Vasco Municipal Market: Crowded aisles, wet floors near the fish stalls and uneven pavements outside, with little seating. Go with a companion in the morning, wear closed shoes and avoid the midday heat.

With parents at Naval Aviation Museum: The aircraft are displayed outdoors on open ground with little shade, so the heat is the main issue. Galleries are indoors and cooler; take water, a hat and plan breaks.

Plan 03

3 days at Bogmalo Beach

  1. 01

    Day 1: Arrive and unwind

If you arrive by air, you can be on the sand within half an hour. Swim, lunch at Joet's and an early night.

  2. 02

Day 2: Velsao and the museum

Drive to Velsao for the 1635 church and Velsao Beach, then return via the Naval Aviation Museum. Take the afternoon off, and eat in the village in the evening.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time

  3. 03

Day 3: Water and the town

Ask about boat trips at the southern end, or a scuba introduction if a dive centre is running. Otherwise visit Vasco market in the morning. Finish with a last seafood meal before your flight.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Bogmalo Beach trip for parents and children

  • Swim in the morning in the season, when the sea is calmer, and stay within the lifeguard's flags. Do not enter the water in the monsoon.
  • Book a room with a lift or on the ground floor and ask for a short walk to the beach and the restaurant.
  • Take the Naval Aviation Museum in the late afternoon: the aircraft are outdoors and the midday sun is harsh.
  • Carry water, a hat and cash. Many shacks do not take cards, and the heat in March and April is tiring.
  • Use autos or taxis for Vasco and Velsao rather than walking, as village roads have little pavement.
  • Choose sit-down restaurants with proper chairs, such as Joet's or the resort, rather than plastic-stool shacks if back support matters.
