Getting around
Taxis, app cabs where available, and rented scooters; the Calangute-Baga road is very congested at peak times. Ask hotels to arrange return taxis for evenings.

How to reach Calangute Beach by air

Dabolim Airport (GOI) is about 40 km away, roughly an hour by taxi. Manohar International Airport (GOX) at Mopa in Pernem opened in 2023 and is roughly 30 to 40 km north; allow about an hour, and check which airport your airline uses.

How to reach Calangute Beach by train

Thivim (THVM) on the Konkan Railway is the closest station to the north, followed by a taxi of roughly 30 minutes. Karmali (KRMI) is the station closest to Panaji, and Madgaon is the main railhead in South Goa.

How to reach Calangute Beach by road

Calangute is about 15 to 18 km from Panaji, roughly 30 to 40 minutes in normal traffic. The Calangute-Baga road is congested at peak times, so allow extra time, especially in the evening.

Getting around Calangute Beach

Taxis, app cabs where available and rented scooters are the main options. Autos are limited, so agree fares in advance. The beach itself is walkable between shacks, but sand is soft and tiring.

For parents and senior travellers

Easy transfers to and in Calangute Beach

  • Soft sand is tiring to walk on; stay near the shack line, where the sand is firmer, and take a taxi for anything beyond a short stroll.
  • Book hotels with lifts or ground-floor rooms away from the Calangute-Baga road, and ask about step access at the entrance.
  • Allow extra time for the road: the Calangute-Baga stretch is slow at peak times, and a short distance can take far longer.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
