Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Calangute Beach trip for parents and children
- Go to the beach early or in the last hour of light, and use the hotel pool in the heat of the afternoon.
- Choose restaurants with ground-level seating and plenty of tables, such as the larger beachfront ones, and avoid evening live-music nights if noise bothers you.
- Soft sand is tiring to walk on; stay near the shack line, where the sand is firmer, and take a taxi for anything beyond a short stroll.
- Never swim when red flags are up, and stay within sight of lifeguards. Sea swimming is prohibited in the monsoon.
- Book hotels with lifts or ground-floor rooms away from the Calangute-Baga road, and ask about step access at the entrance.
- Allow extra time for the road: the Calangute-Baga stretch is slow at peak times, and a short distance can take far longer.
