Can Tho airport and railway station
- Airport
- Can Tho International Airport (VCA), about 9 km north-west of the centre, but its listed flights are domestic only (for example Hanoi and Phu Quoc). Most visitors from India fly into Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and drive about 3 to 4 hours.
- Railway station
- None. Can Tho has no passenger railway. Buses and cars from Ho Chi Minh City are the normal way in.
- Getting around
- Taxis and ride-hailing apps for the city, a hired car with driver for Cai Rang and the countryside, and small boats from Ninh Kieu Wharf for the floating markets. The centre is flat and partly walkable, but traffic is heavy at rush hour.

Can Tho has no passenger railway station. Do not plan on a train; use a bus, car or domestic flight instead.
How to reach Can Tho by road
Ho Chi Minh City is about 170 km away by National Highway 1A, roughly 3 to 4 hours by car or coach depending on traffic. Coaches run from Ho Chi Minh City's Western Bus Station through the day; a private car with driver is more comfortable for older travellers.
Getting around Can Tho
Inside the city use taxis or ride-hailing apps; the riverfront and Hai Ba Trung Street are walkable. Boats from Ninh Kieu Wharf and nearby piers take visitors to the floating markets, and a hired car reaches Binh Thuy and Phong Dien.

Easy transfers to and in Can Tho
- Carry any regular medicines in their original packaging and bring travel insurance with medical cover. For serious problems, ask your hotel to direct you to the nearest major hospital in the city.
- Rush-hour traffic is heavy and pavements are uneven. Cross roads slowly, with a local helper if possible, and use a taxi rather than walking long distances in the heat.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
