Key hubs

Chaukori airport and railway station

Airport
Pantnagar (PGH) is the usual larger airport; Naini Saini (NNS) at Pithoragarh is closer on the map but has limited service. Both involve a long road transfer
Railway station
Kathgodam (KGM), about 198 km by road; Tanakpur is a further option on the eastern side
Getting around
A private car and driver is the practical choice. State buses reach Chaukori from Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Almora, and local taxis cover the nearby sights.

How to reach Chaukori by air

Pantnagar Airport (PGH) is the usual larger airport with links to Delhi; expect a long road transfer of a day's drive via Kathgodam. Naini Saini Airport (NNS) at Pithoragarh is nearer but has limited commercial service.

Easy transfers to and in Chaukori

  • Allow a rest day after the long drive. The road from Kathgodam is about 198 km and mostly winding, so a night halfway is kinder than a single push.
  • Skip the musk deer park hike if knees are an issue; accounts describe a steep climb of about 30 to 35 minutes. The tea road is easy by comparison.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
