The short answer

When to go to Chidambaram

The most comfortable window is January to March, when rain has eased, temperatures are mild by South Indian standards and the temple floors are bearable in the morning. April to June is hot and humid, and October to December is the wet northeast monsoon, with November the wettest month and a real cyclone risk on this stretch of coast. For older travellers, February is the best single month: dry, mild and often coinciding with the Natyanjali dance festival. Keep afternoons free in any month, as the temple closes for several hours.
