Plan 01
1 day in Chiplun
- 01
Day 1: Temple, river and fort
Start at Parshuram Temple in the morning while it is cool, allowing an hour or two for the ridge and courtyard. Stop at the Sawatsada viewpoint only if the monsoon is on. Lunch in town, rest, then drive to Gowalkot in the late afternoon for the estuary view. If you have booked a river safari, schedule it around the low tide instead and drop the fort.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Parshuram Temple (Shree Kshetra Parshuram) 1 to 2 hours Moderate Morning, or the Akshaya Tritiya and Ram Navami festival days if you want crowds and ritual Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Parshuram Temple (Shree Kshetra Parshuram): The temple sits on a rise, so expect a short climb and some steps; the courtyard is largely level once inside. Carry water, wear footwear that slips off easily, and avoid the festival days if crowds are a worry.

Day 1: Parshuram and the town
Visit Parshuram Temple first thing, then return to Chiplun for lunch and a rest. In the afternoon see the Tilak Vachan Mandir library and its small museum, then walk through the town centre.

Day 2: River and Gowalkot
Book the crocodile safari for the low-tide slot, then visit Gowalkot fort, taking the climb only if comfortable.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Gowalkot (Govindgad) Fort About 1 hour Moderate Cooler months, early morning or late afternoon Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Gowalkot (Govindgad) Fort: Paths are uneven and there is a short climb up the small hill with no handrails. Wear grippy shoes and avoid the monsoon when paths are wet. The goddess temple at the foot is easier for those who prefer not to climb.

Day 3: Dervan and Terav
Visit the Walavalkar Shivaji museum at Dervan, confirming directions first, then the Bhawani Waghjai temple on the Terav plateau. In the monsoon, add a stop at the Sawatsada falls viewpoint.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Chiplun trip for parents and children
- Hire a car with a driver for the day; the main sights are 10 km or more apart and have little public transport.
- Visit between November and February; April to June is hot and humid and the monsoon brings heavy rain and flooding risk.
- Parshuram Temple and Gowalkot both involve a short climb. Ask the driver to wait and take the temple at your own pace.
- Do not wade or swim in the Vashishti; crocodiles live in the river and boat trips are tide-dependent and must be booked.
- Confirm timings for the museums and temples locally; sources disagree on some distances and hours.
- Keep a rest hour after lunch and carry water; shade is patchy at Gowalkot and the waterfall viewpoint.
