Plan your visit
How to experience it
If you are staying, ask for a room in the wing that suits you and confirm lift access when booking. Spend your first evening on the terrace overlooking the green and the sea, and walk to the promenade after sunset. The hotel's long corridors, old photographs and verandahs give a sense of Colombo in its colonial period.
If you are only visiting, book afternoon tea on the Verandah and come around 4 pm to get a seat before the sunset crowd. Dress neatly, and check if there is a minimum spend or menu choice. Vegetarian diners should ask staff about options, since menus vary.
The hotel has a museum in the Regency Wing and a saltwater pool, but access to facilities can depend on guest status. Use the hotel's location to walk to the Green, the Dutch Hospital and the Lotus Tower area.
