Plan 01

1 day in Da Lat

  1. 01

Day 1: Lake, market and cathedral

Start with a morning walk along Xuan Huong Lake and the Flower Garden, then see the cathedral on Tran Phu Street. Have lunch near the Central Market and rest. In the afternoon visit the market for jam and tea, or Bao Dai's Summer Palace if you prefer a quiet house museum.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Xuan Huong Lake1 to 2 hoursEasyEarly morning or late afternoon

Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Plan 02

2 days in Da Lat

  1. 01

    Day 1: The centre

Walk the lake, the Flower Garden and the cathedral in the morning, then visit the Central Market in the late afternoon. Dinner near the lake.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Temples and railway

Go to Truc Lam Zen Monastery in the morning, then ride the heritage train from Da Lat station to Trai Mat and see Linh Phuoc Pagoda. Return for a rest and an easy evening.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Truc Lam Zen Monastery2 to 3 hours with the cable car and lakeModerateMorning, on a clear day
Linh Phuoc Pagoda1 to 1.5 hoursModerateMorning

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Truc Lam Zen Monastery: The grounds are hilly and have flights of steps in places. Take the cable car if available and ask about lift access. Benches and shaded spots are available, but check conditions.

With parents at Linh Phuoc Pagoda: Level courtyards, but the main hall and the bell tower involve steps. You can enjoy the dragon and courtyards without climbing the tower.

Plan 03

    Day 3: Waterfall or mountain

Choose Datanla Waterfall for an easy forest walk, or Langbiang Mountain for views. Add the Crazy House on the way back if you want a short, quirky stop.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Datanla Waterfall1.5 to 2 hoursModerateMorning, dry months
Langbiang Mountain3 to 4 hoursDemandingClear morning
Crazy House (Hang Nga Guesthouse)1 to 1.5 hoursDemandingMorning, before tour groups arrive

Pace: Langbiang Mountain and Crazy House (Hang Nga Guesthouse) involve a lot of walking or steps — do them early, and keep the rest of the day light.

With parents at Datanla Waterfall: Paths and steps lead down to the falls, so the return is uphill. The coaster lets you skip some walking but is not a replacement for stairs; ask about alternatives.

With parents at Langbiang Mountain: The jeep ride or a short walk gets you to the first viewpoint. The longer peak route is steep and rocky; older visitors should stay at the lower level.

Pacing

Pacing a Da Lat trip for parents and children

  • Pace the day. The centre is walkable but hilly, so take a taxi for return trips and rest in the afternoon.
  • Carry a light jacket and a warm layer; mornings and evenings are cool, and rain can arrive suddenly in the wetter months.
  • Many temples, viewpoints and the Crazy House involve steps without handrails. Ask staff about easier routes before you climb.
  • Wet stone and moss are slippery. Wear shoes with grip, especially at Datanla Waterfall and temple courtyards.
  • Altitude is moderate at about 1,500 m, but if you have heart or breathing conditions, check with your doctor before the trip.
  • Buy travel insurance that covers medical care and evacuation. Ask your hotel about the nearest clinic or hospital on arrival.
