Plan 01

1 day in Dapoli

  1. 01

Day 1: Harnai, Murud and the sunset

Start at Harnai port in the late morning to see the fishing boats and the view of Suvarnadurg and Kanakdurga, then drive to Murud for lunch and a rest. In the afternoon, visit the Durga Devi temple in Murud village, then spend the late afternoon on the beach or move to Ladghar to watch the sunset. Keep the day to these stops, because village roads are slower than distances suggest.

Plan 02

2 days in Dapoli

  1. 01

    Day 1: Coast and temples

Begin at Anjarle for the Kadyavarcha Ganpati temple while the morning is cool, taking the steps slowly. Continue to Harnai port in the afternoon, then settle at Murud for the beach and a quiet evening. Ask your resort to arrange an early dolphin boat for the next morning.

  2. 02

Day 2: Villages and a sunset beach

Take the early dolphin boat if the sea is calm, then visit the Durga Devi temple in Murud village. After lunch, drive to Keshavraj temple at Asud for the woodland walk, or choose Karde for a quiet beach stop. Finish with the sunset at Ladghar before returning to Dapoli.

Plan 03

3 days in Dapoli

  1. 01

    Day 1: Harnai and Murud

Reach Dapoli or Murud by midday and visit Harnai port and the forts' viewpoint in the afternoon. Watch the shore-side fish auction if it is running, then take an easy evening at Murud beach.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Murud Beach2-3 hours, or a full day with a resort stayEasyNovember to February; mornings for dolphin boats and evenings for the sunset

Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Anjarle and Kelshi

Start at Anjarle for the Kadyavarcha Ganpati temple in the morning, then drive on to Kelshi for the Mahalaxmi temple and the long, quiet beach. Eat lightly and plan a rest, because this is the longest drive of the trip.

  3. 03

Day 3: Caves, woodland and sunset

Visit Panhalekaji caves in the morning with a guide, then take the short woodland walk to Keshavraj temple at Asud if energy allows. Spend the late afternoon at Ladghar or Karde, and leave Unhavare hot springs for a cooler or wetter day when the beach is not an option.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Panhalekaji Caves1-1.5 hoursModerateMorning in the dry season, November to February; slippery after rain
Unhavare Hot Springs1-2 hours plus about an hour each way by roadEasyAny season; the springs stay warm in winter and monsoon. Mornings are cooler

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Panhalekaji Caves: Expect uneven rock steps and floors, low entrances and little seating. The approach road is reported as rough. Take a guide, wear grip shoes and skip it if footing is uncertain.

Pacing

Pacing a Dapoli trip for parents and children

  • Plan one main outing a day and rest at midday; humidity makes afternoons tiring even in winter.
  • Hire a car and driver rather than relying on ST buses. Village roads are narrow and distances take longer than they look.
  • Anjarle's Kadyavarcha Ganpati temple has a stone staircase, and Keshavraj at Asud needs a 15-20 minute uphill walk. Choose these on cooler mornings and go slowly.
  • At Suvarnadurg, view the fort from the shore. The boat landing is awkward and not needed to enjoy the place.
  • Carry regular medicines and a basic first-aid kit. Dapoli has a town hospital network, but villages and beaches are far from larger facilities.
  • Avoid the monsoon with older relatives, when roads and paths are slippery and the sea is rough.
