Day 1: Rann safari and Jhinjuwada
Arrive early from Ahmedabad and register for a jeep safari at sunrise, with a guide arranged through your resort. Spend the morning looking for wild ass herds on the flats, then visit the salt hills near Jhinjuwada. Stop at the Madapol Gate and walk the old town. Rest through the midday heat, and head back to Ahmedabad before dark. Confirm permit arrangements the evening before.

Pacing
Pacing a Dasada trip for parents and children
- Choose a resort with ground-level rooms close to the dining area and ask about transfers within the property.
- Book a morning or late-afternoon safari rather than midday; the flats offer no shade and the glare is strong.
- Jeep tracks are rough and dusty; carry a scarf, hat, water and any back or neck support you need.
- There are no toilets on the flats, so plan stops before and after the drive.
- Keep the Modhera and Patan day trip for a separate day, with a driver and a firm return time.
- Season: Plan for November to February. Outside the dry months the heat is severe, and the Rann floods in the monsoon.
