Day 1: Caves, Ter and Tuljapur
Start at the Dharashiv Caves in the Balaghat hills in the morning, when the light is soft and the rock is cool, and allow about an hour and a half. Return through town and drive 17 km to Ter for the Trivikrama Temple, a short stop of under an hour. Lunch in Dharashiv, then drive about 25 km to Tuljapur for the Tulja Bhavani temple, ideally arriving in the afternoon off-peak and avoiding festival days. Keep the evening for the drive back; the roads are fine by day but you will want to be off them by dark.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Dharashiv Caves 1 to 1.5 hours Moderate Morning, October to February Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Dharashiv Caves: The approach involves a short climb and uneven rock, and the cave floors can be slippery after rain. There is little seating inside. Older visitors can see the front hall and the nearby Shiva temple without going far.

Day 1: The caves and Ter
Spend the morning at the Dharashiv Caves, then have an unhurried lunch in town and rest through the hottest hours. In the late afternoon, drive to Ter for the Trivikrama Temple and a short wander through the village, which stands on the site of the ancient trading town of Tagara.

Day 2: Tuljapur and Naldurg
Reach Tuljapur early for darshan at the Tulja Bhavani temple, ahead of the queues, then drive on about 35 km to Naldurg Fort in the late morning. Walk the walls and the dam across the Bori river with water and a hat, and return to Dharashiv by late afternoon.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Naldurg Fort 1.5 to 2 hours Moderate October to February, morning Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Naldurg Fort: The walls and dam are long and exposed, with uneven stone underfoot and little shade. Older visitors can see the main gate and the dam without doing the full circuit.

Day 3: Paranda or Yedsi Ramling Ghat
Choose one. Paranda Fort is a long drive of roughly 75 km, best combined with a night near Barshi or Kurduwadi if you want an early start. Yedsi Ramling Ghat is only about 20 km out: go at sunrise for a short walk in the sanctuary and to the Ramling Shiva temple, then return for lunch.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Paranda Fort 1.5 to 2 hours on site; a long half-day with the drive Moderate November to February, early morning Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Paranda Fort: Paths are uneven, shade is thin and there is little seating, so older visitors may prefer to see the entrance, the first bastions and the cannons rather than the whole circuit. Wear sturdy shoes and carry water.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Dharashiv trip for parents and children
- Hire a car and driver for the whole trip; public transport to the caves, Ter and the forts is thin and slow.
- Do the caves and the forts in the first half of the day. From March to May the plateau heat is punishing, and even in winter the sun is strong by noon.
- The caves and the Trivikrama Temple are the easiest sights. Naldurg and Paranda involve uneven ground, stone steps and little shade, so go only as far as is comfortable.
- Tulja Bhavani is crowded on Tuesdays, Fridays, full moon days and during Navratri. Pick a weekday morning and expect queues and steps.
- Carry water, a hat, any medicines and snacks; shops are sparse near the forts and the sanctuary, and toilets are basic.
- Heat: March to May daytime highs reach about 39 degrees. Plan outdoor sights for the first two to three hours after sunrise, and rest indoors through the afternoon.
