For parents and senior travellers

Easy transfers to and in Dirang

  • Carry regular medicines for the whole trip plus extras. Pharmacies are limited, and the nearest large hospitals are far away.
  • Plan only one outing a day. Road times are long and winding, and tiredness and car sickness build up.
  • Sights such as Dirang Dzong, Kalachakra Gompa and the hot spring involve steps or uneven paths. Ask the driver about the nearest drop-off point.
  • Keep warm layers, a rain jacket and sturdy shoes in the car. Weather can change within an hour, even in the best months.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
