Area by area

Dubai neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

    Bur Dubai and Al Karama

Best for: Vegetarian families on a moderate budget, and anyone who wants Indian food nearby

Good to know: The closest area to pure-veg restaurants, the old quarter and the Creek. Streets are older and busier, and hotel standards vary widely, so check for lifts and a good taxi drop-off.

  2. 02

    Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

Best for: First-time visitors and seniors who want the main sights close by

Good to know: Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and the fountain are nearby, and Kamat in Business Bay gives a vegetarian option. Prices run higher, and although attractions look close on a map, the walks between them can be long and hot.

  3. 03

    Deira

Best for: Shoppers and budget travellers near the souks

Good to know: Close to the Gold and Spice Souks and to the airport. It is older and more crowded, with heavy traffic at peak times, so check the hotel's location and access carefully if travelling with elders.

  4. 04

    Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah

Best for: Beach holidays and resort stays

Good to know: Good for a relaxed, resort-style trip, but a long way from the Creek and from most vegetarian restaurants. Ask the hotel in advance what it can arrange for Jain or pure-veg meals.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
