Plan 01
1 day in Dubai
- 01
Day 1: Old Creek morning, Downtown evening
Start early at Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, while the lanes are cool, then cross Dubai Creek by abra to the spice and gold souks in Deira. Take a taxi to Karama for a late lunch at MyGovinda's or Rasoi Ghar, and rest at the hotel through the hottest hours. Book a late-afternoon slot at Burj Khalifa, then stay at ground level for a Dubai Fountain show outside the Dubai Mall.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood 1.5–2 hours; longer with an SMCCU meal Moderate Early morning or late afternoon, November to March Rasoi Ghar About 1 hour Easy Lunch for the full thali; the listed split hours mean it may close mid-afternoon Burj Khalifa About 1.5–2 hours including queues and the lifts Moderate An hour before sunset for daylight and city lights; November to March for clearer, cooler air Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood: The lanes are car-free, narrow and sometimes uneven, with few places to sit outdoors. The cafés and courtyard houses give the shaded breaks you will need. Get the taxi as close as possible and keep the walk short in warmer months.
With parents at Burj Khalifa: The decks are reached by lift, so there is no stair climbing, but the approach through the mall is long and there is standing in queues. Ask about wheelchair help when you book and allow time for a slow walk from the car drop-off.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Dubai trip for parents and children
- Plan outdoor sights for early morning or after about 4pm, even in winter, and keep midday for indoors or rest.
- Book a taxi door to door for older parents. The Metro is comfortable, but station walkways can be very long, such as the 820-metre link to the Dubai Mall.
- Ask about wheelchairs at malls and museums when you arrive; distances inside the large buildings are the most common cause of fatigue.
- Carry your medicines in original packaging with a doctor's prescription, and check the UAE's rules on controlled medicines before you fly.
- Buy travel insurance that covers existing conditions and medical evacuation. Rashid Hospital in Umm Hurair runs a 24-hour government emergency and trauma department.
- Allow a very light first day after arrival, and drink water regularly even when the air feels cool indoors.
