Plan 01

1 day in Dwarka

  1. 01

    Day 1: Temple and shore

Arrive early, leave your shoes at a dharamshala or hotel, and go straight to the Dwarkadhish Temple. Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered). The temple is busiest between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., so either arrive at opening or in the late afternoon. Spend an hour inside—allow time for queues, especially if an aarti is running. Walk out to Gomti Sangam Ghat and find a spot to sit by the water. Have lunch at a seafood stall or restaurant near the ghat, where the fish curry and crab are fresh. In the late afternoon, rent a small boat or join a group boat to watch the sunset from the water, or simply walk along the ghat and watch pilgrims bathe. If energy allows, visit the Nageshwar Temple on the way back.

Plan 02

2 days in Dwarka

  1. 01

Day 1: Main temple and ghats

Begin at the Dwarkadhish Temple early, ideally at or just after opening, to avoid the worst of the midday crowd. Spend a full morning inside and at the temple complex. Have a long lunch by the ghat—the seafood here is the real story. In the afternoon, take a guided walk through the old bazaar streets to see the haveli shopfronts and small shrines, then rest. In the evening, hire a boat for an hour on the Gomti and watch the light change across the water.

  2. 02

Day 2: Bet Dwarka and coastal views

Take a boat trip to Bet Dwarka early in the morning—roughly a 45-minute to 1-hour round trip including time on the island. The Bet Dwarka temple is small but sacred, and the island itself is quiet and feels separate from the mainland. Return for lunch. In the afternoon, explore Okha port or drive to the surrounding coast, or visit the Rukmini Temple if the tide and timing allow. End with an evening by the Gomti.

Plan 03

3 days in Dwarka

  1. 01

Day 1: The main temple deeply

Arrive and go straight to the Dwarkadhish Temple at opening time. Dress in temple clothes. Spend the morning inside and in the complex, watching the rituals and aaratis. Have a long lunch at a ghat-side restaurant. In the afternoon, rest or take a gentle boat trip on the Gomti. In the evening, visit the Nageshwar Temple, which is just outside the city and often quieter.

  2. 02

Day 2: Islands and coastal light

Take a full boat trip to Bet Dwarka early, with time to sit on the island and watch other pilgrims. Return to the main city for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Rukmini Temple if timing allows, or explore the town's lesser-known temples and shrines. In the evening, take a longer boat trip or sunset walk along the Gomti.

  3. 03

    Day 3: Coast and departure

Visit Okha port and the surrounding coast in the morning if the weather is clear—the landscape opens up and feels less confined than the city. Alternatively, take a quiet morning walk through the bazaar and smaller ghats. Have a final lunch by the water before your journey out, or relax at a temple garden if one is open to visitors. The pace here is forgiving; there is no need to rush.

Pacing

Make the plan work for everyone

  • The Dwarkadhish Temple has stairs inside and on the approach. If climbing is difficult, ask hotel staff or a local guide about the gentler, wheelchair-accessible entry points, though these are limited.
  • Plan one major activity in the morning and one in the late afternoon. Midday heat in summer is unforgiving; rest and eat during this time.
  • Gomti Sangam Ghat has uneven, sometimes slippery steps. Wear shoes with good grip, and go with a companion or guide if balance is a concern.
  • The boat trips to Bet Dwarka are gentle and do not require strenuous climbing, but boats can be small and the sea can be rough in monsoon months. Choose calm days.
  • Hire a car and driver for the full stay rather than relying on autos and taxis. It gives you a cool place to rest between activities and avoids long walks.
  • Hospitals are limited in Dwarka; the nearest major medical facility is in Rajkot, about 2 hours away. Choose a hotel near the main bazaar area where help is closer, and have a doctor's contact ready.
