Easy transfers to and in Ella
- Choose a guesthouse with a car drop-off and few steps. Many Ella lanes are steep and uneven.
- Carry insurance that covers medical treatment and evacuation. The nearest larger hospitals are in Bandarawela and Badulla; confirm current facilities.
- Take the scenic train for part of the route only, with a reserved seat, and have a car ready at the station if you are tired.
- Carry regular medicines, a printed prescription and enough water. The hill roads are winding, so bring motion-sickness tablets if needed.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
