Plan 01

1 day in Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep)

  1. 01

Day 1: Radhanagar Beach and sunset

Arrive on an early ferry and head straight to your hotel to drop bags. Spend the late morning and early afternoon at Radhanagar Beach (Beach No. 7), swimming and resting under an umbrella or in the shade of palm trees. The beach has a few seafood shacks and tea stalls, but bring water and snacks. Swim again in the late afternoon as the light turns gold, then stay for sunset. Finish with dinner at a beachfront shack or your hotel, and rest early.

Plan 02

2 days in Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep)

  1. 01

    Day 1: Radhanagar Beach

Arrive early and head to Radhanagar Beach for the morning and early afternoon swim. Lunch at a beach shack or your hotel, rest through the hottest hours, then return for an evening swim and sunset. Dinner at a local eatery or restaurant in Govind Nagar village or near your hotel.

  2. 02

Day 2: Elephant Beach and snorkelling

Take an early boat trip (book the night before or through your hotel) from Govind Nagar jetty to Elephant Beach on the north coast. Spend the morning snorkelling in the shallow reefs, spotting parrotfish, surgeonfish and clownfish. Pack a snack and water; the boats provide a simple lunch or you can bring your own. Return by mid-afternoon, rest, and in the evening explore Govind Nagar village or take a short walk to Radha Nagar Beach (a smaller, quieter beach closer to the main village).

Plan 03

3 days in Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep)

  1. 01

Day 1: Radhanagar Beach and Govind Nagar

Arrive on the morning ferry, settle into your hotel, and walk or auto to Radhanagar Beach for a swim and long lunch. Swim again in the late afternoon and stay for sunset. Return to Govind Nagar village for dinner and a short evening walk to see the local market and jetty.

  2. 02

Day 2: Elephant Beach snorkelling and mangrove kayaking

Early morning boat trip to Elephant Beach for snorkelling, returning by midday. Rest through the afternoon, then book an evening mangrove kayak tour from the jetty (tours run roughly 2 hours in the late afternoon or early evening). Paddle through narrow creeks with chances to spot kingfishers, herons and sometimes monitor lizards. Dinner at a restaurant after the paddle.

  3. 03

Day 3: Nearby island day trip or diving (for the confident)

Choose between two options: (a) A boat trip to Shaheed Dweep (Neil Island), a nearby inhabited island with its own beaches, rock formations and quieter atmosphere—takes 30–45 minutes each way and allows a half-day or full-day trip depending on ferry schedules. Pack snacks and water. (b) For those with diving certification or willing to try a discovery dive, a morning dive trip to a nearby reef site such as Dixon's Pinnacle (book with a PADI school the night before). Non-divers can opt for a second snorkel trip or rent a scooter to explore the quieter eastern beaches such as Vijayanagar Beach (Beach No. 5). Rest in the evening and prepare for your return ferry.

Pacing

Make the plan work for everyone

  • The beaches are flat and accessible, with no stairs or uneven terrain. Radhanagar Beach and Elephant Beach are senior-friendly for swimming and rest.
  • Boat trips to Elephant Beach involve boarding a small vessel at the jetty. If you have mobility concerns, check the boarding steps with your boatman in advance; some boats have easier access than others.
  • Bring high-SPF sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat and a long-sleeved rash guard for the water. The sun here is strong even in winter, and the reflection off white sand and water intensifies it.
  • Hire a private auto or scooter with a driver for the day rather than relying on shared autos. It gives you flexibility, a resting place (the car), and avoids long waits between transport.
  • Stay hydrated: carry bottled water at all times, drink it regularly, and avoid relying on beach shack supply. A 2–3 hour beach day can leave you dehydrated without noticing.
  • Choose a hotel close to Radhanagar Beach or Govind Nagar to minimize travel time, and confirm it has a lift (if you are on a higher floor) and reliable hot water. Older properties can have plumbing inconsistencies.
