Best for: Convenient access to ferries, boats and the main village with shops and restaurants
The main hub where the ferry arrives. Hotels range from budget guesthouses to resorts. Staying here means easy access to boat tours and a short walk to basic services, but the area is busier and less peaceful than elsewhere on the island. The jetty has noise from boat engines in early morning.

Radhanagar Beach area (Beach No. 7 vicinity)
Best for: Direct access to the island's most famous beach, sunset walks and a quieter setting
Most of the island's mid-range and upscale hotels are here. A short auto ride from Govind Nagar (5–10 minutes). Beach shacks and a few restaurants are nearby. This is the heart of the tourist experience; choose it for beach focus rather than village exploration.

Vijayanagar (Beach No. 5 area)
Best for: A quieter, less touristy village base with access to the eastern beaches
A fishing and farming village on the eastern side of the island with fewer tourists. Hotels here are simpler; the beaches are peaceful but the water can be rougher depending on season and tide. A scooter rental or agreement with an auto driver is more important here for reaching Radhanagar or Elephant Beach.

Shyam Nagar
Best for: A peaceful village experience away from the beach tourism hub
Inland from the beaches, this Bengali-settled village offers a glimpse of local life. Few tourist hotels; homestays and simple guesthouses are available. Quieter and more authentic, but you will need transport to the beaches.

- Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
- Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
- Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
- Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.

- The beaches are flat and accessible, with no stairs or uneven terrain. Radhanagar Beach and Elephant Beach are senior-friendly for swimming and rest.
- Boat trips to Elephant Beach involve boarding a small vessel at the jetty. If you have mobility concerns, check the boarding steps with your boatman in advance; some boats have easier access than others.
- Bring high-SPF sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat and a long-sleeved rash guard for the water. The sun here is strong even in winter, and the reflection off white sand and water intensifies it.
- Hire a private auto or scooter with a driver for the day rather than relying on shared autos. It gives you flexibility, a resting place (the car), and avoids long waits between transport.
