The short answer
Truong Tien Bridge: what visitors should know first
Yes, as a free evening stop. Walk across at dusk when the lights come on. It takes minutes, is flat and has no tickets. Do not cross during rush hour and keep an eye on the motorbikes.
History and context
The story behind Truong Tien Bridge
Wikipedia says the bridge was started in May 1899 and opened on 18 December 1900. The firm Schneider et Cie and the Letellier team won the commission, and the Eiffel company later upgraded it, including a concrete deck, and widened it between 1937 and 1939. Coloured lighting was installed permanently in 2002.

Why it matters
Why Truong Tien Bridge is worth your time
The bridge is both a landmark and a link between the old citadel side and the French-era south bank. It is one of the few places where the city's colonial engineering and its river life are visible together.
It is not a major historic site, so treat it as an easy evening walk rather than a destination. For many older travellers, that is the point: you get a lit river view without a long outing.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Walk to the middle of the bridge about half an hour before sunset. You will see the Perfume River in both directions, the dragon boats at their moorings and the citadel side on the north bank. Then stay on or near the bridge as the colour lights come on.
Take the riverside walkway on the south side to view the arches from a distance. The bridge is 403 metres long with six arches, and from the bank you can see the full span reflected in the water.
Combine it with a river cruise, a walk through Dong Ba Market and dinner. Keep to the pavement on the bridge, since motorbikes pass close. If you want a calmer view, cross early in the evening before the crowds.
