1 day in Jagdalpur

Day 1: The royal quarter and the lake
Start at the Danteshwari temple and the palace gate beside it, then walk to the neighbouring Mavli temple area if you wish. Visit the Anthropological Museum while it is open, since its hours are limited and it closes on some days. Have an unhurried lunch and rest. In the late afternoon, walk the edge of Dalpat Sagar at a gentle pace as the light drops and, if it is a haat day, pass through the local market. This is a light day that suits a flight arrival.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Dalpat Sagar 45 to 90 minutes Easy Late afternoon from November to February; post-monsoon for fuller water Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
Plan 02
2 days in Jagdalpur

Day 1: Town sights
Do the Danteshwari temple and palace gate in the morning, then the Anthropological Museum when it opens. Rest after lunch, then spend the late afternoon at Dalpat Sagar and in the market lanes.

Day 2: Chitrakote Falls
Leave early for Chitrakote Falls, about 38 km west, and spend the morning at the viewpoints. Return for lunch and rest in Jagdalpur; if the monsoon is on, the falls are at their widest but footing is wet, so take extra care.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Chitrakote Falls 2 to 3 hours at the site; half a day with travel Moderate July to October for volume; November to February for clear weather and easier walking Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Chitrakote Falls: There are viewing decks and steps leading down; some paths are uneven and wet in the monsoon. The upper viewpoint is easier than the descent, so older visitors can enjoy the view without going down.

With parents at Kanger Valley National Park: Mostly a drive with short walks, but caves and falls involve steps and uneven ground. Choose the sights that suit your mobility.
With parents at Kotumsar Cave: Stairs lead to the entrance and there are steep steps inside, with limited lighting and narrow passages. Not recommended for people with knee, balance or breathing difficulties.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Jagdalpur trip for parents and children
- Plan one major outing a day and rest after lunch. Distances to Chitrakote and Kanger Valley are modest on the map but slow on the road.
- Hire a car and driver for the whole trip. There are few reliable taxis for day trips, and a car gives you a cool, private place to rest.
- Kotumsar cave has steps leading to the entrance and steep steps inside, with a mandatory guided tour of about an hour. Skip it if stairs or low light are a concern.
- At Chitrakote and Tirathgarh, stay behind barriers and avoid wet rock, especially in the monsoon when surfaces are slippery.
- Carry water, any regular medicines and basic first aid; medical facilities are concentrated in Jagdalpur, not at the falls or the park.
- Check current official travel advisories for the Bastar region, share your route with your hotel and keep to daytime travel on main roads.
