Taman Mini Indonesia Indah: what visitors should know first

Good for families with a full day free. Use the park's electric shuttle or cable car rather than walking, pick two or three pavilions rather than all of them, and check current hours and ticketing.

Why it matters

Why Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is worth your time

Taman Mini was the idea of First Lady Siti Hartinah, known as Tien Suharto, and the Harapan Kita Foundation she established began the project in 1972. It opened on 20 April 1975. Its purpose was to show the country's regional diversity in one place, so that visitors could see the traditional houses, costumes and dances of different provinces without crossing the archipelago.

For travellers, it is useful as a shortcut: if you are not going to Sumatra, Sulawesi or Papua, the pavilions give a taste of building styles and crafts. Remember that it is a curated, state-planned portrait rather than a neutral survey.

Plan your visit

How to experience it

Plan before you go. The park covers about 147 hectares and includes 33 pavilions representing Indonesian provinces, 7 places of worship for different faiths, 24 parks and 17 museums, as well as a bird park, a freshwater aquarium, a science centre, an IMAX theatre and a cable car with three stations. You cannot do it all, so choose.

Since the 2022 revitalisation, private cars and motorbikes are not allowed inside. Use the electric shuttle microbus, the Skylift cable car, or rent bicycles, golf carts or scooters. The simplest plan for a family is a shuttle loop, two or three provincial pavilions, the bird park, lunch, and the lake in the evening, where a dancing fountain show is run nightly.

The LRT station Taman Mini is about 1.5 km from the main gate, and a free shuttle links them; Transjakarta buses serve the area too. Gate 1 is the public entrance for motor vehicles and bicycles, while Gate 3 on the south is for pedestrians and vehicles.

Plan with confidence

Small decisions that make the visit easier.

  • Go on a weekday
  • Use the shuttle or cable car
  • Pick two or three pavilions
  • Check hours and ticket prices online
  • Carry water and sun protection
