History and context
The story behind Jamb Samarth
District records place Ramdas's birth on Chaitra Shukla Navami in Shake 1530, around 1608, in the family of Suryajipant Thosar Kulkarni and Ranubai. He was originally named Narayan, and his elder brother Gangadhar was known as Rami Ramdas.
The Samarth temple trust, registered in 1943 by Nanasaheb Dev, manages the temple and its lands.

Why it matters
Why Jamb Samarth is worth your time
Samarth Ramdas is one of Maharashtra's best-known saints, associated with the 17th-century devotional and political movement around Shivaji. Jamb is where he was born, as Narayan, to Suryajipant Thosar Kulkarni and Ranubai, according to the district tourism account.
For travellers interested in how saint traditions shaped Maharashtrian identity, the birthplace adds context that the larger sites, such as his later resting place at Sajjangad, cannot. It is a modest village, but it is a working centre of devotion.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Jamb is a small village, and the visit is a simple one. The Ram temple stands at the house where Ramdas is said to have been born, and the Samarth temple was built in his memory, managed by a trust registered in 1943. The trust also provides lodging for pilgrims, built with a donation from Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore.
Go in the morning, take darshan, and sit for a while in the courtyard. If you want to see the place in full swing, plan around Ram Navami, when a large annual fair is held at the Ram temple. Expect heavy crowds, limited sanitation and long queues on that day, so older travellers should pick another time.
Travel from Jalna or Partur by regular buses to Ghansawangi, then on to Jamb, or hire a car. Carry water, and check the road route on a map, as the official pages do not give the distance.
Plan with confidence
Visit as a guest, not a spectator.
