How to reach Kasauli by air

The nearest major airport is Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh (IXC), about 60-70 km away; allow roughly 1.5-2 hours by taxi.

How to reach Kasauli by train

Kalka (KLK) is the closest railhead, about 25 km from Kasauli, and is also the start of the Kalka-Shimla narrow-gauge line. Chandigarh and Ambala Cantt (UMB) are larger junctions with more long-distance trains.

How to reach Kasauli by road

Kasauli is roughly 58 km from Chandigarh and about 77 km from Shimla. The usual routes run via Kalka and Parwanoo, or via Dharampur on the Shimla highway, which is generally the easier road.

Getting around Kasauli

The town centre is compact and best seen on foot, but slopes are steep. Taxis serve the viewpoints and temples; a private car from Chandigarh is the simplest way to arrive.

Easy transfers to and in Kasauli

  • Take a taxi to Manki Point, the Gilbert Trail and Baba Balak Nath temple rather than walking from the Mall; the stairs and slopes add up quickly.
  • Carry a government ID for Manki Point, which is inside an Air Force station, and arrive well before the afternoon cut-off.
  • Avoid July and August if you can: heavy rain, fog and landslides can close or slow the hill roads.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
