1 day in Kasauli
- 01
Day 1: Church, walk and sunset
Arrive in the morning and start at Christ Church, then walk along the Mall to the Heritage Market for a bun samosa at Narinder Sweet House. Take a taxi to the start of the Gilbert Trail in the early afternoon, walk as far as your legs allow, and finish at Sunset Point for the evening light. If you have a government ID and it is before the cut-off hour, swap the afternoon walk for Manki Point instead.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Narinder Sweet House 20-30 minutes Easy Mid-morning or late afternoon Gilbert Trail 2-3 hours with stops Moderate Early morning or late afternoon in spring and autumn Sunset Point 45-90 minutes Easy Late afternoon to sunset in autumn and spring Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Gilbert Trail: The first stretch is wide and comfortable, but the path narrows, has uneven ground and little seating. Older visitors can walk the first part and turn back.

Day 1: The town on foot
Begin at Christ Church in the morning, then browse the Mall and Heritage Market. Have lunch at one of the cafes, rest in the afternoon, and walk down to Baba Balak Nath temple or take a short taxi. Finish with dinner at a Tibetan or wood-fired pizza place.

With parents at Baba Balak Nath Temple: The temple is reached by roughly 250 steps by some accounts, with limited seating, so it is demanding for many older visitors.

Pacing
Pacing a Kasauli trip for parents and children
- Choose a hotel with level access or a ground-floor room; many lanes and older buildings in Kasauli have steps and steep approaches.
- Take a taxi to Manki Point, the Gilbert Trail and Baba Balak Nath temple rather than walking from the Mall; the stairs and slopes add up quickly.
- Carry a government ID for Manki Point, which is inside an Air Force station, and arrive well before the afternoon cut-off.
- Pack layers in every season. Evenings are cool even in spring, and winter nights can be very cold.
- Avoid July and August if you can: heavy rain, fog and landslides can close or slow the hill roads.
- Keep snacks, phones and bags out of sight near temples and viewpoints; monkeys are bold and will snatch items.
