   Day 1: Dawn safari and return

   Arrange a jeep safari starting before dawn (around 6 am) from Kohora gate; wildlife is most active at dawn and dusk. Spend 3–4 hours on the track spotting rhinos, elephants, swamp deer and birds. Return by mid-morning for breakfast and rest. In the afternoon, rest at your hotel or visit the small Kaziranga Interpretation Centre if you have energy. A sunset safari from 4 pm is optional if you wish to extend, though one good session is enough for a brief visit. Eat dinner early and rest.

2 days in Kaziranga

1. 01

   Day 1: Dawn safari from Kohora

   Rise early and be at Kohora gate by 5:30 am for a 3–4 hour jeep safari. This gate offers good chances of seeing rhinos, elephants and swamp deer in the grassland and Diphlu River wetlands. Return by mid-morning for a substantial breakfast. Rest through the hottest hours at your hotel or take an elephant safari in the afternoon (a gentler way to explore and sometimes good for animal viewing). Spend the evening walking around Kohora village or visiting the Kaziranga Reptile and Rescue Centre if open.

2. 02

   Day 2: Different gate or activity

   Drive to either Agaratoli gate or Bagori gate for a different section of the park, or take another early safari from Kohora if you prefer. Each gate offers slightly different terrain and wildlife patterns. In the late afternoon, visit the banks of the Brahmaputra River for birdwatching and a view over the floodplain. If time allows, visit nearby Mikir Hill for a panoramic view of the park, or drive out to Panbari Sanctuary for a quieter wildlife experience. Return for dinner.

3 days in Kaziranga

1. 01

   Day 1: Kohora gate safari and evening exploration

   Early safari from Kohora gate, 3–4 hours starting before dawn. This is your best chance for rhino, elephant and tiger sightings, and for observing the birds of the grassland. Return and rest. In the late afternoon, visit the Kaziranga Interpretation Centre or take a leisurely walk around Kohora village. Watch the sunset from the Brahmaputra River banks if the park allows evening access.

2. 02

   Day 2: Agaratoli or Bagori gate and Mikir Hill

   Drive to Agaratoli or Bagori gate (roughly 30–45 minutes from Kohora) for a safari from a different vantage point. This section of the park sometimes offers quieter viewing and different animal concentrations. Return by late morning. After rest and lunch, drive to Mikir Hill for a view over the park and the Brahmaputra Valley. The hilltop has a small temple and the drive is scenic; allow 2 hours return from Kohora.

3. 03

   Day 3: Panbari Sanctuary or day trip to Manas

   For a quieter wildlife experience, visit Panbari Wildlife Sanctuary near Kohora, good for bird watching and wild boar sightings. Alternatively, drive to Manas National Park (roughly 2 hours from Kaziranga), a UNESCO site with rivers, forests and wildlife different from the grassland park. This is a full-day excursion; return the same evening or stay overnight if interested. Alternatively, rest and do a final sunset safari from Kohora to catch any missed animals.

Pacing

Make the plan work for everyone

• Book an elephant safari instead of or alongside a jeep safari. Open jeeps on bumpy tracks are tiring; elephant backs move more gently and sometimes offer closer animal views.
• Do the early safari (dawn start is unavoidable for good viewing), but rest thoroughly after. A 3–4 hour morning activity followed by a 4–5 hour afternoon rest is the standard rhythm.
• Choose a hotel with a ground-floor room; many properties lack lifts. Ask about this when booking.
• Hire a car and driver if you plan to visit multiple gates or do side trips like Mikir Hill. Roads are rough in places, and having your own vehicle with a driver means you can rest between stops.
• Carry broad-spectrum sunscreen, a hat, water, and socks for open jeep time. The sun reflects off the grass, and there is no shade during safari.
• Ask your hotel to arrange hotel-to-gate transport; walking to gates or from parking areas can be far. Some gates have long walks from the car park to the jeep assembly point.
