Khejarla is a village in Bilara tehsil of Jodhpur district, home to about 7,500 people at the 2011 census. Its reason to appear on a travel plan is Khejarla Fort, a red sandstone fort on a low rise, built in 1611 for Gopal Das of the Bhati Rajput clan and now partly a heritage hotel, partly the family residence.
There is little else in the way of formal sights, and that is what suits it. The village is a rain-fed farming settlement growing bajra, mustard, wheat, gram and moong, with khejri trees in the fields. Guests walk among potters, blacksmiths, weavers and shoemakers, visit the Bhesad Mata temple, and spend long evenings on the fort terraces.
The town of Pipar, known for hand block-printed cotton, is a short drive away, and Bilara is the local market town. Jodhpur Airport is the nearest airport, and the nearest railway station named for the village area is Bhawi.
For older travellers, Khejarla works as a quiet overnight rather than a base for sightseeing. Plan a car transfer, bring any medicines you need, and treat it as a rest day between bigger stops.
