Plan 01
1 day in Kinwat
- 01
Day 1: Hot springs and a forest edge
Start early with Unkeshwar, about 15 km from Kinwat, to see the Mahadev temple and the warm-water tanks before the day heats up. Return to Kinwat for lunch and a rest, then spend the cooler late afternoon at the edge of the Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary, confirming access with the forest office beforehand. Keep the evening free; there is little to do in town after dark.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary Half a day; a full day with a forest rest-house stay Moderate November to February for comfortable weather; early morning for wildlife Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary: Most of the experience is from a vehicle, but tracks are rough and the nearest toilets, shade and medical help are far away. Older visitors should travel in winter, take water and medicines, and keep the visit short.

Day 1: Unkeshwar and the sanctuary
Visit Unkeshwar in the morning, when the temple is quiet and the air is cooler. After lunch in Kinwat, head for the Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary for a short guided visit arranged through the forest department. Do not enter the forest without the permission and escort the department requires.

Day 2: Waterfall or Mahur
In the monsoon and just after, drive to Sahastrakund waterfall on the Painganga and see the falls and the temples beside them from the viewing points. In the dry months, swap it for Mahur, about 50 km beyond Unkeshwar, for the Renuka Devi temple on its hill and the quieter Dattatreya shrine.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Sahastrakund Waterfall 1 to 2 hours at the falls; half a day with the drive Moderate Late monsoon to early winter (roughly August to November), depending on water level Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Sahastrakund Waterfall: Viewpoints are near the road, but paths to the water are uneven and slippery. Older visitors should stay at the railings. The site is crowded on monsoon weekends and has few facilities.
Plan 03
3 days in Kinwat

Day 1: Unkeshwar and the town
Take the morning at Unkeshwar, then rest in Kinwat. Use the afternoon to arrange vehicles, forest permissions and food for the next two days, since services thin out beyond the town.
- 02
Day 2: Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary
Spend the cooler morning on a guided visit to the Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary, with the afternoon off. Reach the forest early; wildlife is most active at dawn and dusk and the heat in the dry months is hard on older visitors.

Day 3: Mahur and Sahastrakund
Drive to Mahur for the Renuka Devi temple, climbing slowly or hiring a lift where allowed, and visit Sahastrakund on the way back if the water is running. Keep a long margin before dark; rural roads are poorly lit.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Kinwat trip for parents and children
- Hire a car and driver for the whole day; public transport between the sights is sparse and walks from the road can be long.
- Visit between November and February. April and May are very hot, and the monsoon makes forest tracks and some roads difficult.
- Carry drinking water, snacks, sun protection and regular medicines from Kinwat or Nanded. Facilities near the sanctuary and waterfall are minimal.
- Hospitals of any size are in Kinwat, Nanded and Adilabad, not near the sights. Note the nearest one before long drives.
- At Sahastrakund, stay behind railings and off wet rock. The falls are slippery and are known for accidents during the monsoon.
- Book any forest rest house or sanctuary visit in advance through the forest department; do not assume a walk-in will be accepted.
