Area by area

Koh Lanta neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

    Klong Dao

Best for: Families and first-timers who want the closest beach to the Saladan pier

Good to know: About 3 km of fine sand a short ride from the pier, with the widest range of restaurants, shops and hotels, and rarely crowded. A good base if you want services close at hand.

Sights in this area: Time for Lime cooking class

  2. 02

    Phra Ae (Long Beach)

Best for: Travellers who want a long, peaceful beach with a wider choice of clinics and restaurants

Good to know: A crescent of about 4 km, with several clinics nearby and a quiet feel despite plenty of accommodation. Some clinics keep seasonal hours, so check in the wet season.

  3. 03

    Kantiang Bay

Best for: Couples and resort guests who want a smaller bay and good snorkelling

Good to know: A bay of about 1 km with fewer hotels, including Pimalai. It is farther from Saladan, so airport and ferry transfers take longer and you rely on hotel transport.

Hotels we cover here: Pimalai Resort and Spa

  4. 04

    Lanta Old Town

Best for: Culture, quiet evenings and a few simple guesthouses

Good to know: The east-coast administrative town, with a long pier, shophouses and the island hospital nearby. It has little beach, so it suits a night or two or a day visit.

Sights in this area: Chao Leh (sea people) culture

    Pimalai Resort and Spa

Kantiang Bay, southwest Ko Lanta Yai · Luxury beach resort · Price band: ₹₹₹₹

A luxury resort in the south of Ko Lanta Yai, set on about 100 acres of forest with 900 m of beachfront, a spa, two pools and a children's programme.

For older travellers: The resort is large and set on a hillside with forest and beach, so rooms may involve steps or buggy rides. Ask for a ground-floor villa near the restaurant and request a transfer to avoid driving on the south road.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
