How to reach Koh Rong by air
The nearest airport is Sihanouk International Airport (KOS), in Ream commune about 18 km from Sihanoukville. Direct flights from India are not something I verified; most Indian visitors connect through Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or a regional hub. Check airlines for current routes.
How to reach Koh Rong by train
There is no railway on the island and no useful passenger rail service for visitors on the mainland. Plan on flights, buses or a private car to Sihanoukville, then a boat.
How to reach Koh Rong by road
National Highway 4 links Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville, about 250 km long. From Sihanoukville, speedboats cross to Koh Rong in about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the beach and weather.
Getting around Koh Rong
On the island, walking, shuttle boats and local fishing boats link the beaches, and some places hire motorbikes. Roads are limited and partly under construction, so ask your resort how to reach your beach and what the boat costs.
For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Koh Rong
- Choose a resort with a reliable boat transfer and ask for help with boarding from piers.
- Carry medicines, a copy of prescriptions and travel insurance that covers medical evacuation; do not expect hospital care on the island.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
