Why it matters
Why Saralpara is worth your time
Saralpara shows the border end of Kokrajhar district: forest, streams and hills with almost no development. It lies beside Raimona National Park and Ultapani, so the same trip passes some of the best wildlife habitat in Bodoland.
Local tourism boards promote it as a picnic and nature spot. For a visitor, it is a good way to feel how close the Eastern Himalayan foothills are to this plains town, and to see forest the area is working to protect.

How to experience it
Saralpara is a place to drive to. The Kokrajhar sightseeing list gives about 55 km from town, with the final approach on a long, straight forest road, about 27 km, between Raimona National Park on one side and Ultapani reserve forest on the other. A private car is advised, because the site is far from the main highway.
At the end the Saralbhanga river runs over stones, with Bhutan's hills visible beyond. People come to picnic by the water and to watch butterflies and birds on the way. There are no developed facilities, so bring food, water and bags for litter. The Sarpang market in Bhutan lies about 5 km further on, but crossing the border is a separate matter that needs proper documents and is not part of a casual visit.
Combine the drive with Raimona and leave early, as light fades quickly in the forest. Do not feed wild animals, and keep your windows up if elephants are reported nearby.
