Plan 01
1 day in Kolad
- 01
Day 1: River and a fort
Start early with a short walk up Ghosalgad, about 8 km south of Roha. Return for a late lunch and a rest. In the late morning or afternoon, check the dam release with your operator and raft the Kundalika if everyone is fit; otherwise watch from the bank and enjoy a quiet evening by the river.
Plan 02
2 days in Kolad
- 01
Day 1: Forts near Roha
Visit Ghosalgad in the morning and Talagad around midday if energy allows, then take a long lunch and rest. Enjoy the river or a resort lawn in the evening.
- 02
Day 2: Rafting or the ghat road
Raft the Kundalika if the water is running, or drive the Tamhini Ghat road with a stop at the Bhira area for scenery. After the monsoon, add Devkund for fit walkers.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Tamhini Ghat 2-3 hours for the drive and viewpoint stops Easy Post-monsoon (October to December) for clear views; monsoon for waterfalls but with heavy rain and low visibility Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
Plan 03

Day 2: Rafting and the Bhira side
Raft in the late morning if water is released, then drive towards Bhira and Tamhini Ghat for views.

Day 3: Coast day trip
Drive towards Kuda caves and Murud-Janjira, starting early. Choose one or two stops, not all, and return before dark.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Kuda Caves 1-1.5 hours Moderate October to February, morning Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Kuda Caves: The caves lie on a hillside and involve a climb on uneven steps. Shade and seating are limited. Older visitors can see the lower caves and skip the upper levels if the climb is tiring.

Pacing
Pacing a Kolad trip for parents and children
- Choose gentle forts first: Ghosalgad has a short approach of about 15 minutes, whereas Avchitgad and Sudhagad are tougher.
- Skip rafting if anyone has heart, breathing or mobility concerns; operators often set an upper age of 60 to 65.
- Avoid the monsoon for treks: Devkund and Plus Valley have been restricted after accidents.
- Plan one main activity a day and rest in the afternoon; the climate is humid and the drives are winding.
- Carry water and snacks; sights have few facilities.
- Check road conditions on ghat roads after heavy rain.
