Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Kolhapur trip for parents and children
- Go to Mahalakshmi temple early on a weekday; weekends, Fridays, festival days and Navratri see long queues and standing.
- Follow the temple dress rules: shorts, short skirts, ripped jeans, sleeveless and transparent clothing are not allowed, and traditional wear may be offered by nearby shops.
- Panhala and Jyotiba involve slopes and steps; use a car as close to the sights as the road allows, and carry water.
- Ask for mild food: Kolhapuri curries can be very hot, and misal is best taken with curd.
- Avoid the April to May heat and the heavy July and August rain for day trips.
- Plan one major sight per half-day and rest after lunch.
