How to reach Kota by air
Kota Airport (KTU) has had no scheduled passenger services for many years, with a new airport planned but not yet open. The practical airport is Jaipur International (JAI), about 240 km away, a road or rail journey of roughly four to five hours depending on traffic.
How to reach Kota by train
Kota Junction (KOTA) is a major junction on the Delhi–Mumbai main line, with trains to Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bhopal and Udaipur, and a line towards Bundi and Chittaurgarh. It is the easiest way to arrive for most visitors.
How to reach Kota by road
Kota lies on NH52, with state and private buses connecting Jaipur, Udaipur, Indore and Delhi. Bundi is about 35 km away by road, roughly 45–60 minutes depending on traffic.
Getting around Kota
App cabs and autos work in the city, and a private car and driver is the easiest way to reach Kaithoon, Garadia Mahadev and the wildlife areas. Most central sights are within a short ride of each other.
For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Kota
- Hire a car and driver for the whole day when visiting Kaithoon, Garadia Mahadev or wildlife areas. Public transport out of town is limited.
- Choose a hotel with a lift and a car drop-off near the door; many older heritage buildings have steps.
- Carry water, a hat and any regular medication, and plan a rest after lunch. Afternoons are the hardest part of the day in every season except winter.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
