Why it matters
Why Thoseghar Waterfalls is worth your time
The falls are among the most visited sights near Satara and show how the monsoon turns the Sahyadri edge into a series of cascades. Some drop 15 to 20 metres, and one is far taller.
As a quick outing for families, it is easier than the Koyna forest sites and gives a monsoon view without much effort. It also fits neatly into a day on the Satara side with Kaas Plateau, so the two together make a sensible rainy-season circuit for visitors who cannot manage forest treks or boat transfers.

How to experience it
Thoseghar is a short stop. Park at the designated lot and walk the paved road for about half a kilometre to the viewing platform. From here you see the main fall and several smaller streams dropping into the valley.
Go on a clear morning after rain has fed the streams but before the weekend crowds. In heavy rain, the platform can be wet and closed for safety, and the valley route down is unsafe.
Pair it with Kaas Plateau, which is on the same side of Satara, if your dates fall in the flower season.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
- Visit after rain but check safety closures
- Wear grip shoes
- Stay behind the railings
- Combine with Kaas in flower season
