Krabi's local food is southern Thai: seafood, curries with coconut milk and shrimp paste, and sticky rice. Vegetarians should be careful, because fish sauce, shrimp paste and shared oil are common even in dishes that look plain. In Thai, the phrase for vegetarian food is "jay", and you can ask for a dish "no fish sauce" and "no egg", though kitchens vary.

Ao Nang has the widest choice for Indian families. Govinda's is a vegetarian restaurant that its own site describes as a vegetarian haven, and a travel guide calls it the only pure vegetarian restaurant among the Krabi Indian places it lists. Bombay Palace, Taj Palace and Maharaja are Indian restaurants with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes; they are tagged only as Indian here, so ask about preparation. Evidence for a fully Jain kitchen was not found, so Jain families should say what they need when ordering, ask for no onion, garlic or root vegetables, and consider carrying snacks on boat tours, where lunch is often seafood-based.

Krabi Town's weekend night market is the best place for local snacks, but most stalls use meat, fish or shared oil. Fruit, smoothies and corn are the safer choices. Resort hotels can often arrange vegetarian meals if asked in advance.

Menus and kitchens change. If you follow a strict diet or have an allergy, confirm with the restaurant before you order.
